The club’s aim is to raise awareness about ecological issues around Cyprus and the world in general. Many activities have been undertaken these last two decades including tree-planting at the Academy and all around Cyprus. Given recent fires, the club will be heavily focussed on re-forestation over the next few years.
Eco education through guest speakers and excursions has also been central to the club. Students have visited eco centres including a one week stay at the Centre of Alternative Technology in Wales. The club is also strong in promoting animal welfare via many fund raising events for shelters - including a rock concert. Highlighting the plight of animals in the Limassol zoo back in 1999-2001 when conditions were dire, was also a huge project.
Beach clean ups, nature walks, observing eco systems, visiting eco homes, the Greenpeace ship and organising healthy juice days have also been vital elements in our eco education.
The Ecology Club is looking forward to more fun and educational activities with its enthusiastic and committed students. The Ecology Club was founded by Mrs. Loucaides-Agridiotis and Mrs. Argyrou-Louca and has been actively running since 1998. Please see either of these teachers for more information.
