Position: President of the Larnaca District Governing Organisation

SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US

I am a Class of ’89 graduate. I was the President of the Brotherhood during my final year. The seven years at the AAL urged me to never stop seeking knowledge so, after completing the military service as second lieutenant, I went to City University of London for studies (Engineering) receiving my BEng (Hons) and MSc (Hons). Following my studies I returned to Cyprus where I started working for Larnaca Sewerage and Drainage Board back in 1995. In 2010 I completed my MBA at Kingston University (London).
Since 2018, I am the General Manager of the Larnaca Sewerage Board, an organization that aims the upgrade of Larnaca infrastructure, with the vision to become a modern authority providing taxpayers with qualitative services, thus offering the best possible service to our fellow citizens.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW?

Currently, I am the President of the District Organisation of Local Government. This new organisation will have responsibility for drinking water, sewage, solid waste exploitation and management, and the issuance of Town Planning and Building Permits throughout the district. In 2022, I was appointed as the Project Manager for the preparation of this new organisation that will be effective on July 2024.

YOUR TIME AT THE ACADEMY

The passage through the AAL is so enriching, aspirational and inspirational, that follows you throughout your life. The knowledge you gain, the moments you experience and the lifelong friendships you make, are all important trails in the journey of life. Academic knowledge was vital in this journey, however the AAL offered me much more than that, as I was provided with core values and the right mentality. Through the guidance of the academic staff and the extracurricular activities that were abundant, I received as a student an all-round education and multifaceted experiences that enhanced my personality to grow and to serve. The moto of our school is a lighthouse to my journey in life: to grow personally, academically and professionally, and to serve through one’s family, community, employment.

FONDEST MEMORIES FROM AAL?

The AAL community is great. It has always been and will always continue to be in the future. As a member of the Alumni foundation I always care of what’s going on at my school and I will always provide any help if necessary. For me personally, there is an extra special bond with our school as my mother, Panayiota Hadjicharalambous, used to be a teacher at the AAL for more than 30 years.
