The concepts of Classical Literature, Archaeology, History and Philosophy have always attracted me. The spirit and wisdom the Classical World holds will never cease being my educational “altar”. Therefore, I devoted myself and reinforced my education in this academic field. During my Classical Studies BA at King’s College London (KCL) I have obtained the required knowledge to continue with a master degree in the field of Classics. My decision held the wish to strengthen and build up on my knowledge of Classical literature, History, Archaeology and how the Classical world has fashioned the modern world today. After having explored in depth different aspects of the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds, the master degree entitled Reception of the Classical World at University College London (UCL) enabled me to examine how the Classical world interacted with and continued to have an impact on later ages.
I am currently doing a PhD at the Institute of Classical Studies of the School of Advanced Study, University of London. My research focuses on Classical Greek tragedy. As from September 2022 I am part of a private institute where I teach Classical subjects to students including Modern Greek language, Ancient Greek language, history and literature.
I attended the American Academy Private School in Larnaca in the period of 2010-2017. During my studies at the American Academy Larnaca, I obtained the necessary qualities to focus on my career and achieve my goals. Driven by ambition I worked really hard trying to balance the responsibilities I had as a student and my life as a teenager. Arguably this specific era of my life was quite stressful and challenging but at the same time fulfilling as I was working on achieving my goal and gaining substantial knowledge needed for my future career. The excellent communication and cooperation between teachers and students, motivated me to strive for excellence. The teachers at the American Academy Larnaca pushed me to deliver the highest quality performance in my exams. The administrative sector of the school was always next to me when I needed guidance and help.
I will never forget the affection and closeness I felt with my classmates and teachers. Being part of an institution for seven years feels like being part of a big family. This school is my second home. It is truly a blessing to be part of this community of teachers, students and administrative staff who offered all the necessary knowledge and guidance that enabled me to attain my goal. I will always honour and respect them. The American Academy did not only help me achieve my dreams and goals but to develop my own personal qualities and character. My Modern and Classical Greek teachers triggered me to pursue a career in Classics, linguistics and literature. The academic counsellors helped me to gather more information revolving around the Classics degrees in the United Kingdom and empowered me to accomplish my goal. I started investigating Classics degrees in the United Kingdom and I soon became interested in the Classics Bachelor’s degree at King’s College London. Being guided by the academic counsellors of the school and my teachers, I made an excellent selection of subjects at GCSE level which mirrored the academic path I strived to follow.
The academic counsellors helped me to choose a range of Classical and theoretical subjects including Classical Greek, Government and Politics, law and English literature. I have been fortunate enough to study Classics at both GCSE and A-Level. Once I’ve started studying Classical literature at school and learning ancient Greek I became astonished and in this way I chose the path I loved the most.
Highly cooperative and educated teachers of the school enhance the education system of the institution.
The American Academy Larnaca provides a healthy studying environment as well as a place to feel safe and secure. The American Academy Larnaca taught me how to ‘grow’ within challenging situations and ‘serve’ my purpose in life: aspire to gain the essential qualities to contribute significantly in the field of Classics in the future.
